Floral Feeling

This long sleeve shirt is made using a 1970s embroidered tablecloth from Austria, the same piece carried to Canada by my great grandmother during her emigration, blended here with a second simple white tablecloth to round out the design.

Austrian embroidery of the era was typically hand-stitched into everyday household linens, valued for the detail and time invested rather than pure decoration alone. Pairing it with a plain white textile lets the embroidered panels take center stage, while adding the volume needed for a long sleeve silhouette. The combination brings together two different textile stories in one piece — a family heirloom from Austria layered with an unassuming complementary linen.

Cut and finished by hand, this shirt highlights the original embroidery while extending its story into a new form.
