Gott Zum Gross

This shirt is made using a 1960s children's duvet cover from Germany, featuring bold red and white stripes with charming folk motifs throughout.

The initials "MW" were embroidered at the bottom, personalizing the piece for the young girl it was made for, alongside the phrase "Gott zum Gruß" running along the stripes — a traditional German greeting meaning roughly "God's greeting to you," rooted in Bavarian folk culture. Phrases like this were often woven into household textiles of the era, blending everyday items with regional customs and quiet expressions of faith.

The red and white striping reflects a classic mid-century German style, simple yet graphic, made to bring cheer into a child's room. This piece is one of my true favorites of the collection.
