Cielito
This shirt is made using a 1980s embroidered tablecloth from Mexico, discovered years later at an antique market in Texas. The front panels feature light blue fields paired with delicate white embroidery, a style rooted in Mexican textile traditions where hand-stitched linens were staples of the home, often made for special occasions or passed along as heirlooms.
The back panel carries a striped design, with a central white band flanked by light blue on either side, giving the piece a graphic, almost flag-like quality. Its journey from a Mexican household to a Texas antique market speaks to the deep cross-border movement of goods, families, and craft along the Texas-Mexico corridor throughout the 20th century.
Cut and finished by hand, this piece preserves the original embroidery and weight of the fabric.
