This shirt is made using a second 1960s chenille bedspread, sourced from the same rural Pennsylvania antique market as its predecessor but with its own distinct color and texture.
Chenille bedspreads surged in popularity across postwar America, when the era's prosperity brought a new appetite for color, texture, and a little domestic extravagance into the home. The tufted, looped weave is signature to the decade, produced on specialized chenille looms that turned small Georgia mill towns into the heart of a booming national industry.
While it shares its sibling's postwar roots, this piece carries its own character in the fabric's weight and pattern. Cut and finished by hand, this shirt preserves the original texture and warmth of a true 1960s chenille classic.
