Alas de Tela
This unisex shirt is made from a handwoven 1980s Mexican tablecloth, likely crafted on a pedal loom in the valleys of Oaxaca. Originally intended for domestic use, these round cotton cloths were woven by women in indigenous cooperatives and often gifted at weddings or made for local celebrations. Later, similar designs were also produced for the tourist market, blending tradition with new contexts. The blue birds woven across the fabric are stylized doves—symbols of peace, rain, and migration—found frequently in Mesoamerican textile traditions. Each line of animals reflects a rural visual language passed down through generations, blending cosmology with daily life. To honor this heritage while making it uniquely Endorpol, I added subtle blue embroidery along the facing. By preserving the original fringe and layout, the shirt respects the weaver’s intent while reimagining its place in the world. A quiet domestic heirloom becomes something wearable, alive, and rooted in storytelling.
